Cait from Little City Farmhouse used the color, Liquorice to beautify this classic farmhouse bench. Keep reading to learn all about the transformation!

A friend of mine built a new farmhouse inspired home recently and asked me to refinish a bench for her. It was a solid maple bench and she gave me free reign to paint it however I wanted. I knew it needed a classic farmhouse feel with a little wow factor.
The bench had a rather slick finish to it and I wasn’t looking forward to sanding all the spindles. If you’ve ever refinished a piece with spindles you know what I mean! Instead of sanding I used a product I know I can rely on time and time again for great adhesion – Country Chic’s Primer. This primer creates a bond between a slick finish and your paint, ensuring great adhesion. It’s also clear, which means you can distress your piece without seeing white or grey primer! I sprayed a coat of primer on the bench and let it dry as per the instructions on the jar.
Next up – paint! I used Liquorice, a beautiful true black. I sprayed on two coats. When it was dry I distressed it lightly to show it’s beautiful shape and to give it some worn character and charm. I sealed the bench with three coats of satin poly. I love the way it turned out! Classic farmhouse bench for a new home!
